General Kim Byung-Joo is a graduate of the Korea Military Academy (B.A. in Philosophy), Joennam University (M.A. in Business), and Kyunggi University (Ph. D in Politics). General Kim is the Deputy Commander of the Combined Forces Command, and the Commander of the Ground Component Command. He had also served in commanding general at the 3rd Corps and the Army Missile Command. He also worked at CS in several positions including Deputy Assistant Chief of Strategic Planning and Joint fires head of section and the staff officer of the Military Committee Meeting. He has served in various international positions as well, including ROK deployment officer at CENTCOM during the Iraq War, UNC observer at India and Pakistan.
Commanding General, Eighth Army Chief of Staff, Combined Forces Command
Lieutenant General Michael A. Bills, a native of New York, received his commission in December 1983 through the Army Reserve Officers’
Training Corps program at George Mason University. Lieutenant General Bills holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Master of Strategic Studies. His military education includes the Armor Officer Basic and Advance Courses and is a graduate of the Command and General Staff College and the United States Army War College.
Lieutenant General Bills most recently served as the Assistant Chief of Staff U-3/C-3/J-3, United Nations Command/Combined Forces Command/United States Forces Korea. He now serves as the Commanding General, Eighth Army and Chief of Staff Combined Forces Command.
RADM Grenstad is graduated from the Advanced Command Course at the Swedish National Defence College. His first flag assignment, 1st of July 2005, was as Chief of Staff Royal Swedish Navy, then in 2007 he assumed the position as Chief of Staff
Swedish Navy and Commander Maritime Component Command. In April, 2011, RADM Grenstad was appointed to Head of Swedish delegation to the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission in Korea where he served for over 2,5 years.
In 2014 he was appointed as deputy Chief of Joint Operations at the Swedish Armed Forces Headquarters until January 2016 when he was appointed Acting Chief of Joint Operations until June when he took over as head of veteran’s affairs and preparations for a second tour to Korea. Since May 2017, RADM Grenstad has served as Head of Swedish delegation to Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission in Korea 2017-2019.
RADM Grenstad is a fellow of the Royal Society of Naval Sciences and the Royal Swedish Academy of War Sciences. his personal decorations include; Republic of Singapore’s Meritorious Service Medal, the United States Legion of Merit (Commander), l ́ordre National du Mérit (France). The Republic of Poland Defence Forces Medal in Gold, Korean Service Medal, the United States Legion of Merit (Officer).
Colonel Mark R. Schonberg is a native of Council Bluffs, Iowa. He holds Masters Degrees in Information Systems and Strategic Studies, and received his bachelors from Iowa State University.
COL Schonberg has served in various leadership positions in Korea; Ft. Riley, Kansas; Hawaii; Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas; and Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska, and across Europe.
He served as the Commander of the 39th Signal Battalion in Belgium, and later as the Chief of Staff for 5th Signal Command in Germany. His most recent assignments prior to his current duties were the ISAF CJ6 Operations and Plans Chief in Afghanistan, the Army’s Cyber Capabilities Development and Integration Director (CDID), and the Army Cyber Command’s Deputy Chief of Staff and G6.
He is currently serving as the United States Forces, Korea, C4I Joint Working Group Co-Chairman and the Director of Task Force Mercury in charge of the C4I build-out in support of the $12 Billion Yongsan Relocation Program.
COL Randolph Wardle is currently the Eighth Army Assistant Chief of Staff, G6. COL Wardle took command in July 2016. As the G6, he supports the Commander of Eighth Army and United States Forces Korea by advising on information technology functions as well as CYBER security operations. This includes advising on the impact of communications security, force structure, equipping, budgeting and employment of network, communications, and signal capabilities. Prior to assuming command in Korea, COL Wardle completed graduate studies at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania in 2016.
He has more than 30 years of experience as a U.S. Army Signal and Infantry Officer, including three years as the Joint Staff J6 Coalition Branch Chief at the Pentagon from 2012-2015. COL Wardle previously served as the G3, 5th Signal Command in the European Theater from 2011- 2012. There he was the primary provider of C4I support, managing over $65 million in annual budgets and operational control of five Signal battalions, as well as associated theater support initiatives. From 2009-2011 he served as the G6, 1st Armored Division in Europe and Iraq in support of non-combat and combat-related Command and Control operations. Previous duties have included G6, 25th Infantry Division (Light) in support of combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as Program Manager for the fielding and training of the Joint Network Node Satellite Systems to four combat brigades throughout the USARPAC/Pacific area of operations.
COL Wardle’s civilian education includes a Bachelor’s degree from California State University, Fresno, Master’s in International Relations from American Military University and a Masters of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.
His awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal (three Oak Leaf Clusters), Meritorious Service Medal (five Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Commendation Medal (two Oak Leaf Clusters) and Army Achievement Medal (two Oak Leaf Clusters).

Colonel Robert S. Mathews, Jr. was commissioned as a second lieutenant Adjutant General officer through the Army ROTC program after graduating from Valley Forge Military Junior College in 1988.
His previous assignments include Operational Detachment Commander and Assistant Operations Officer, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, NC; COL Mathews transitioned to be an Observer/Controller at the Joint Readiness Training Center, Special Operations Training Detachment, in Fort Polk, LA; COL Mathews then had a break in service where he took positions of increasing responsibility as an internal Six Sigma process improvement consultant for GE Commercial Equipment Finance in Danbury, CT, and the Small Business Finance Group in St. Louis, MO; he then accepted the role of SVP of Operations for the Commercial Business Group at Citibank North America in New York City, NY; following 9/11, COL Mathews transitioned back onto Active Duty and was assessed into Army Acquisitions Contracting in 2007; COL Mathews served as the 608th Contingency Contracting Team Leader, then Operations Officer for the 900th Contingency Contracting Battalion; he then took over as the Deputy Regional Contracting Chief in Kandahar, Afghanistan, followed by Battalion Command of the 901st Contracting Battalion at Fort Hood, TX. Prior to his arrival to 411th CSB, COL Mathews attended the U.S. Army War College, Carlisle, PA.
Colonel Mathews has a Master’s degree from the U.S. Army War College, a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Elizabethtown College, and an Associates in Business Administration from Valley Forge Military Junior College. COL Mathews is Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act Level III certified in Contracting. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army War College and Command and General Staff College, among others.

Colonel Mathews is joined by his wife, Cindy, his daughter, Alexis. His son, Riley, remains in NYC with his mother.
General(Retired) Jung graduated the Korea Military Academy(BA), the Graduate School of Yonsei University(MBA), and the US Army War College. He had served in the Special Forces and the Field Armies as the commanders and staffs of various echelons. He had also served as a multi- national division commander (Zaytun) in Iraq. He had worked in CFC, JCS and
MND at several positions including the 37th Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff. He was retired from active duty in October, 2013 after 42 years of service. He had joined the CSIS in Washington DC as a senior visiting fellow in 2014. Currently, he is teaching the cadets in the Korea Military Academy and leading Korea-US Alliance Foundation as the president.
Retired Lieutenant General Chun has had a distinguished career in the ROK army for nearly forty years as an infantry officer.
LTG Chun became famous when he was credited with saving the life of the ROK Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the Rangoon bombing in 1983.
LTG commanded from platoon to the division as well as Commander of the ROK Special Warfare Forces and earned a reputation for high morale and readiness.
His command of English has put him in many combined assignments to include deployment to Iraq.
LTG Chun has a Masters degree in Strategy from the US Army War College and a PhD from Kyung-nam University in Political science. His awards include a US Bronze star, three Legion of Merits and the first Korean to receive the US Special Operations Command Medal.
